What happens in your first class?
Many new students are unsure what to expect when attending their first Taiji or Qigong class. The atmosphere is usually calm, welcoming and unhurried, with an emphasis on helping people feel comfortable and settled from the beginning.
Classes often begin with gentle loosening exercises and simple breathing practices to help release tension and bring awareness into the body. From there, students are guided through foundational movements, posture work and standing meditation practices that develop balance, coordination and relaxation. Instructions are given clearly and progressively, allowing complete beginners to participate without needing prior experience.
There is no expectation to “get everything right” immediately. Learning Taiji and Qigong is a gradual process that deepens over time. The aim of a first class is simply to begin experiencing the principles of calmness, rootedness and mindful movement in a supportive setting.
