The Value of Standing Meditation

Standing meditation is one of the core practices within both Taiji and Qigong traditions. Although simple in appearance, it is a profound method for developing awareness, relaxation, structure and internal balance. In a world where many people feel constantly scattered or overstimulated, standing quietly and learning to settle the body and mind can be deeply restorative.

​​The practice involves maintaining natural postures while relaxing unnecessary tension and allowing the breath to settle. Over time, students often develop a greater sense of grounding, stability and connection throughout the body. Rather than forcing stillness, the aim is to cultivate a calm and alert presence that supports both physical and emotional balance.

Many people are surprised by how powerful such a quiet practice can be. Standing meditation can help develop patience, resilience and a more rooted relationship with ourselves. It also forms an important foundation for Taiji movement, helping students move with greater ease, integration and awareness.
